JUP calls for judicial probe into Nishtar Park tragedy

Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Pakistan (JUP) has demanded of the Sindh government to step down and called for formation of a judicial commission under the Chief Justice of Pakistan to probe the Nishtar Park blast.
The JUP held a party meeting here on Wednesday, which was attended by a large number of its leaders from across the country.
The party also constituted two separate committees, one for pressing the government for effective and speedy investigation of the Nishtar Park incident and the other for release of JUP workers, who were arrested on charge of damaging public and private properties on February 14 in Lahore.
A three-member committee headed by Maulana Ghulam Muhammad Sialvi would visit Karachi to announce its future line of action after holding meetings with different groups of Ahle-Sunnat leaders and families of the victims.
Addressing a press conference after the meeting, MNA Sahibzada Fazal Karim and JUP central president accused the Sindh government of covering up the culprits, responsible for, what he called, target killing at a religious congregation in Nishtar Park, where more than 50 people including prominent religious scholars were killed and over a 100 injured. He said the government had miserably failed in apprehending the perpetrators and it seemed that it was giving protection to the culprits.
"Despite President's and Prime Minister's assurance for day-to-day hearing and monitoring of the case, the Sindh government has yet not been able to arrest the criminals," he said. He alleged the involvement of the Sindh government and the governor in the blast and observed that investigations could never be fair and neutral under the present provincial administration. He called for constituting an independent judicial commission under the Chief Justice of Pakistan to unearth the culprits.
JUP chief threatened that religious parties would soon launch a mass movement against the government for its failure in dispensing the speedy justice to the victims.
Sahibzada vowed to support the ARD for restoration of democracy saying that the JUP leaders would attend the ARD's meeting in London on July 2. Professor Muhammad Ahmed Siddiqui, Maulana Ghulam Muhammad Sialvi, Pir Syed Shabir Hussain Shah, Pir Muhammad Iqbal Shah, Sahibzada Ghulam Murtaza Shazi, Maulana Nasir Ahmed Owaisi and others attended the meeting.
