The work on linking of Hubco with KESC link was completed on Tuesday evening, paving the way for commencement of electric supply directly from Hibco powerhouse to Karachi, it was learnt here Wednesday.
The work on this Rs 3 billion project was taken in hand in 2004 to meet power shortage in Karachi through additional supplies directly from Hubco, which has the generation capacity for 1200 MW.
So far, KESC had been receiving additional power supply of up to 600 MW from Wapda's Jamshoro-KDA Grid. However, the two circuits of Jamshoro Grid have since grown old and at times there had been tripping during maximum supply periods, causing power blackout in Karachi.
The link, according to sources, is planned to be inaugurated on May 15. Thereafter Karachi is supposed to receive additional 510 MW from Hubco, directly, besides supply from Wapda through Jamshoro Grid, already supplying 600 MW.
