A delegation of Pakistan Kissan Movement (PKM) called on central chairman of Pakistan Sugar Mills Association (PSMA) Chaudhry Zaka Ashraf here on Friday.
Chaudhry Muhammad Ashfaque, president Pakistan Kissan Movement and Chaudhry Hanif Gujjar, secretary general of the movement led delegation, which also included four executive committee members of the movement.
The delegation said the farmers were happy in general over getting maximum profit on their cane crop during outgoing crushing season, as they were getting a price ranging between Rs 100 to Rs 120 per maund. However, the delegation members pointed out that many sugar mills were delaying in making payments and many farmers were yet waiting for the final clearance of their dues.
Zaka Ashraf assured the delegation that dues of the farmers would be paid soon and the association would play its due role in this regard.
Chaudhry Muhammad Ashfaque pointed out that both the sugarcane and cotton crops were affecting badly due to water shortage.
Zaka urged the federal government to take stock of the situation and implement the dripping and sprinkling irrigation system in the country to conserve water for its efficient use.
