The rupee retained its overnight levels versus the dollar in the interbank market on Friday at 60.06 and 60.07 ahead of the weekend, dealers said.
According to some players there was some increase in demand for dollar as importers continued buying to meet the payment requirements. They apprehended the dollar may gain more ground in the coming days.
In the world markets, the US dollar marked time just off a one-year trough against the euro and steadied against the yen and sterling on Friday, supported by expectations that strength in US jobs data could reverse its three-week sell-off.
OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee moved up slightly versus the dollar, gaining one paisa for buying at 60.17 and picking up three paisa for selling at 60.22, dealers said.
The rupee failed to maintain its overnight firmness, losing 15 paisa versus the euro for buying and selling at Rs 75.80 and Rs 75.90, respectively.
The single European currency recovered lost ground on the back of rise in its value globally, dealers said.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The rupee further lost its worth by 10-paisa in relation to the greenback in the local currency market on Friday.
According to the currency dealers, the dollar's trading commenced at overnight closing rates of Rs 60.20 and Rs 60.30 on buying and selling counters, respectively. With the increase in dollar's demand, its rate further moved up and closed at Rs 60.30 and Rs 60.40 on buying and selling sides, respectively, the dealers said.
Similarly, the local currency remained under pressure and lost its value against the pound sterling. The British pound was purchased at Rs 110.40 and was sold at Rs 110.60 as compared to Rs 109.90 and Rs 110.30 of Thursday, the dealers added.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The rupee remained firm against the dollar at the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Friday.
The dollar opened at Rs 60.15 (buying) and Rs 60.25 (selling) against same last rate. It did not observe any further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 60.15 (buying) and Rs 60.25 (selling).
Pound sterling opened at Rs 109.70 (buying) and Rs 109.90 (selling) against same previous rate. It did not witness any further fluctuation in the evening session and closed at Rs 109.70 (buying) and Rs 109.90 (selling).
