Shanghai copper futures at record

Shanghai copper futures soared by their daily upper trading limits to a record on Monday, after London copper had gained about 10 percent last week when markets in China were closed for a week-long holiday break.
The most active Shanghai contract, July, rose 4 percent, or 2,690 yuan, from the previous settlement to 70,010 yuan ($8,729) a tonne. It was also up 2,010 yuan from the previous close.
Aluminium futures also jumped by their daily limits, with the most active July up 610 yuan from the previous close at 22,080 yuan a tonne.
By 0100 GMT the benchmark LME copper contract was at $7,690/$7,710 a tonne, against Friday's London close of $7,655. On Friday, the red metal reached a record $7,800. Copper was closed at $7,000 on April 28.
LME aluminium was at $2,905/$2,915 a tonne, against Friday's London close of $2,935.
