Civil Aviation Authority's Airport Emergency Exercise 2006 successfully concluded at Islamabad International Airport on Tuesday.
The main purpose of the exercise was to impart training to the CAA staff and to weigh potential of existing equipment to cope with any emergency.
Ambulances and Fire Brigade vehicles from various organisations including CAA, Pakistan Air Force, Airport Security Force, Pakistan International Airlines, combined Military Hospital, Town Municipal Administration, Edhi and hospitals of twin cities took part in the exercise.
The exercise was held under the aegis of International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), which is being conducted after every two years at all the major airports of the country.
Boeing 747 was used for this mock drill at the Airport tarmac and a fire was blazed to pretend that the aircraft has caught fire. On an emergency call, crash tenders of CAA and PAF rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire within standard response time.
Earlier, Airport Manager Ashfaq Hussain briefed the reporters about the importance of that exercise. The basic purpose of the exercise was to train, educate and develop co-ordination among different agencies involved in the fire fighting and rescue operations.
