The opposition on Tuesday filed two separate adjournment motions with the Senate Secretariat, seeking debate in on 'controversial sale' of Pakistan Steel Mills, and kitchen items uncontrolled price spiral.
"The sale of Pakistan Steel Mills at a very low price has caused grave concern amongst the public; therefore, this matter of urgent public importance should be debated in the House, suspending the routine business," one motion said.
Alliance for Restoration of Democracy Secretary, Izhar Amrohvi, told Business Recorder here that the other motion sought debate on increase in prices of important kitchen commodities, contradicting the government's claim of reduction.
"Essential commodities' rates are continuously going up, which is confirmed in the Federal Bureau Statistics report. People even with smaller families are committing suicide, being unable to afford the two-time bread," the motion said.
Raza Rabbani, Ishaq Dar, Sanaullah Baloch, Saadia Abbasi, Enver Baig and Rukhsana Zuberi signed the motions.
There was another motion regarding the reported thrashing of a driver by a uniformed official in Rawalpindi on Monday in full view of bystanders, after two vehicles rammed into each other. "The matter is of urgent importance and needs discussion on the floor of the House," the motion, signed by Raza Rabbani, Safdar Abbasi, Enver Baig, Sadia Abbasi and Ishaq Dar, said.
The coming session is most likely to witness opposition's 'fireworks' on many issues, including law and order situation, and US gunship helicopters' violation of Pakistan's airspace.
