Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre (SKMCH&RC) is going to start bone morrow transplantation very soon, and a few patients have already been registered for this purpose.
SKMCH&RC Medical Director Dr Asim Yusuf said this while giving a briefing about the hospital to a group of officers from different countries of Asia and Africa who participated in 104th Advance Railway Course conducted by Pakistan Railway Academy here on Tuesday.
He said this kind of treatment entailed heavy expenses but they would provide free treatment to deserving patients as per mission of the hospital. 'We have introduced our own special information system in the hospital. With this system the hospital has not only gained financially but also a lot of improvement in its working has been witnessed', he added.
Dr Asim said the hospital management was establishing cancer hospital at Karachi and Peshawar. Initially, we have set up diagnostic and walk-in clinics at these cities. These centres would not only be a source of early cancer detection but also generate revenues for the hospital, he said.
To a query, he said SKMCH & RC was providing diagnostic and treatment facilities to cancer patients without any discrimination.
"We are admitting more patients as compared to foreign hospitals but still people are not happy with us. They should realise that this hospital alone can not cater the patients of whole of the country with our limited resources," he added.
