'Drought may not affect crops if water used judiciously'

Federal Secretary, Ministry of Water Resources, Ashfaque Mahmood has said that if water is used judiciously, there will be no affect of the water shortage on crops.
Talking to BBC, he said, the first thing is to make everybody aware of this situation. So far as the availability of water is visible it seems to be correct. But it will be better to begin forthwith judicious and efficient use of water, he added. To a question, he said, Indus River System Authority (Irsa) regularly held meetings with all the Irrigation departments of provinces.
In consultation with them it determines the judicious requirement of water. Therefore, it is not merely an advice rather it is an operational thing.
"Other important thing is that we have also to build water reservoirs because we need water for the coming Rabi season. This will be possible only through advisory process as to how to make judicious use of water," he added.
