The water inflows at the rim stations of river Indus and its four main tributaries have considerably improved and reached the level of 2,54,663 cusecs on Tuesday, which are sufficient to meet the indents of the provinces for timely sowing of Kharif crop, Indus River System Authority sources told Business Recorder here on Tuesday.
Sources said that due to current hot spell in the upper regions the inflows in River Indus, Kabul, Jhelum and Chenab have increased by 80,000 cusecs during the past five days at an average of 16,000 per day. They said that out of the current inflows, IRSA will supply 1,10,000 cusecs to Punjab, 76,000 cusecs to Sindh, 2,7800 cusecs to NWFP and 3,400 cusecs to Balochistan while a 50,000 cusecs of water is being stored in Tarbela and Mangla reservoirs.
They said that inflow in river Indus at Tarbela was 93,000 cusecs, in river Kabul at Nowshera 48,500 cusecs, in river Jhelum at Mangla 70,045 and in river Chenab at Marala was 45,118 cusecs. The downstream discharge at Chashma barrage is gone up to 95,000 cusecs and water level at Guddu barrage, Sukkar barrage, and Kotri barrage has started increasing. The upstream and downstream discharge at Guddu on 9/5/2006 was 36,024 cusecs, Sukkar 31,356 and Kotri barrage 3,105 cusecs.
