The Ministry of Women Development (MoWD) will spend an amount of Rs 168.709 million on several schemes for socio-economic and political empowerment of women during the next fiscal year.
Sources told Business Recorder on Wednesday that the projects will be finalised in Departmental Development Working Party (DDWP) meeting of the Women Development Ministry scheduled to be held on May 17.
'Jafakash Aurat' project for economic empowerment of rural women in Tharparkar (Sindh) will cost Rs 35 million envisaging income generation and employment for women.
They said that the ministry has proposed for the provision of transport facilities for girls colleges in less developed districts, rural areas of the four provinces and federal area and Fata costing Rs 38.5 million. The transport facility will also be provided to FG Postgraduate College for Women, Rawalpindi costing Rs 2.2 million.
Sources said that ministry is focusing on providing transport facility to female students so that they may not face obstacles in reaching to their institutions to acquire education. The project 'Community Mobilisation and Women Rights' to be started in four districts of Larkana will cost Rs 5.475 million. The project will be executed by Bright Educational Society, Larkana, sources said.
The primary aim of the project is to bring women rights awareness among general public as large-scale gender discrimination was recorded in Sindh province.
The 'Gender Sensitisation Programme' will cost Rs 19.770 million. An amount of Rs 10.678 has been allocated for the establishment of women crisis centre at Jacobabad.
The ministry will also spend Rs 4 million for the provision of buses to the Government Degree Colleges, Chitral.
