The Pakistan Railways (PR) has agreed to lay the track from Shershah Station to Multan Dry Port terminal for facilitating the exporters and importers, and this project would soon be executed as assured by the authorities, said Multan Dry Port Trust Chairman Khawaja Muhammad Younas while addressing a reception for newly-appointed Collector Customs Ikramullah Ghouri here on Saturday.
He said the Multan Dry Port Trust exported and imported goods worth Rs 83 billion through handling of 62,000 containers and deposited Rs 3.5 billion in the government treasury in shape of duty, taxes and EDS (Export Development Surcharge) during the last 10 years.
He said the MDPT had held a meeting with the Railway authorities in which they agreed to provide a terminal to the Trust near Shershah junction.
Khawaja said the first bonded warehouse had been set up at the Multan Dry Port Trust in collaboration with the Customs Department, adding the MDPT had reduced its export and import charges.
He claimed that he played a key role in providing all the facilities at the MDPT, which were available at the Karachi port.
