Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim on Sunday declared 14 districts of Sindh, including Thatta, Badin, Tharparkar, Mirpurkhas, Sukkur, Jamshoro and Jacobabad calamity-hit under the Section-3 of Sindh National Calamities (P&R) Act, 1958.
This decision was taken in the light of recommendations of the provincial steering committee under the DRAPP/ DERA-II Program.
Dr Arbab said the district administrations of the districts concerned had suggested that these districts should be declared calamity-hit as in past they had braved water shortage, cyclones, rains, earthquakes and other natural calamities. He said that approving recommendations these districts had been declared as calamity-hit, so that the planning and development department could initiate rehabilitation work there under the DERA-II Program.
