The government of President General Pervez Musharraf has given the women for the first time representation at grass-roots level and at National Assembly and the Senate. This was stated by the Federal Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, former justice Abdul Razzak Thahim.
He was speaking at a certificate award ceremony of Seven Days Interactive Workshop of Trainers (Lead Mentors! Research Analyst) on the modified curriculum for the training of women councillors.
The minister emphasised that women should take part in the training and use their skill and ability in all fields, and this training would be helpful in resolving problems and affairs of union Council.
He said that women are playing an important role at all level, they have 72 seats in the National Assembly while 18 seats in the Senate of Pakistan and that its all credit goes to policies of the present government.
The government will support them and will provide fund for solving their problems, he added.
The minister further said that an important aspect of this training was that master trainers were not only imparting training but also assessing the capabilities of the participant on the assessment criteria developed by UNDP ie on knowledge obtained about content, capacity to deliver the module, general altitude towards participants.
At the beginning 50 participants attended these two workshop started from May 9 and are ending on May 15. In the end, the minister congratulated the successful participants of this training course and wished them best of luck in their future.
Provincial Minister for Women Development, Dr Saeeda Malik, also spoke on the occasion and appreciated women's participation in the training.
She hoped that they will play their due role in projecting women's activities at UC level and will create awareness among women, specially in the rural areas.
