India on Wednesday freed six Pakistani prisoners, including four children, as part of goodwill gesture, TV channels reported. The freed prisoners were handed over to Pakistani authorities at Wahga border, who were later brought to Lahore.
They would be in the custody of the security agencies for questioning and would be allowed to re-join families after the process is completed, TV channels reported.
The Border Security Force (BSF) arrested four Pakistani children while crossing the Pakistan-India border by mistake some four months ago. Two others, who belong to Kashmir, were freed after 14 years in Indian jails, the report said.
Those freed included Mithan Masih, 12, Mohammed Khurram, 13, Shaukat Ali, 13, Imran Masih, 15, Mohammed Ayub, 40, and Mohammed Rauf Kashmiri, 36.
Reports say that the fresh release had taken the total number of Pakistani prisoners released by India this year to 22.
