The Pharma Bureau, a sub-committee of the Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OICCI), organised a workshop on "Ethical Marketing of Pharma Products" at a local hotel here on Thursday. Over 130 participants comprising marketing and medical staff from the Pharma Bureau member companies attended the workshop.
Riaz Hussain, the Executive Director of Pharma Bureau in his welcome address informed that this was the first event, which is the process of optimisation and validation that have been set in motion so that the Pharma Bureau comes up to the expectations of the member companies.
Dr Fareed Khan, Chairman of the Pharma Bureau, gave an introduction to the aims and objectives of this meeting. Only a month ago, the suo motu action by the Supreme Court on spurious drugs brought the issue under the microscope.
This was the reason why there is a need for greater understanding and consensus on the Ethical issues related to marketing of pharma products. Dr Amir Jafri, Chairman Ethics Sub-Committee of the Pharma Bureau explained the working of the Ethics Committee, which handles all complaints of non-compliance within the member companies.
Dr Nadimur Rehman, Medical Director Wyeth, took up the subject of International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (IFPMA) Code, chapter by chapter. Professor Azhar Farooqui, Director, NICVD, Dr Shujaudding Shaikh, Salman Burney President OICCI and others also spoke on the occasion.
