The Agriculture Extension department has advised and suggested the growers to cultivate low delta crops. They advised growers to cultivate crops like Pulses, Sunflower, Jowar, Bajara, Guar, Watermelon, soybean, Groundnuts, Chilies, Tomato and other vegetables during current Kharif 2006 season.
As alternate of major crops like Cotton, Paddy, Sugarcane in the areas facing with drought, due to acute shortage of irrigation water or possibilities of late supply of water in the canals and distributaries.
This was decided in a meeting on Tuesday at Hyderabad under the Chairmanship of Naeem Ahmed Korejo, Director General Agriculture Extension Sindh, Muhammad Murad Dharejo Director Major Crops, Shamsudin Memon Director Information, Abdul Satar Bhutto Director Plant Protection, Syed Qaim Ali Shah Director training, Abdul Satar Burro Entomologist and other experts from A R I Tando Jam who attended the meeting have suggested that in case of water shortage deep plowing and drilling methods should be adopted in Cotton Cultivation Ridge methods may carry out only in rare cases where it is must and water is available.
During meeting, DG instructed the District Officers of 23 districts to educate the growers of their areas through personal contacts holding seminars and field days.
Meanwhile the Director Agriculture Information informed that his Directorate is going to launch publicity campaign through print and electronic media for the awareness of the growers.
DGA Extension directed the field officers to ensure complete enforcement of Paddy act in ban areas, he advised that in view of the shortage of irrigation water growers may install tubewells where under ground water is sweet to overcome on the water problem. In this regard government will give 50 percent subsidy to the grower for installation of tuhewells DGA Extension further strictly directed to District Officers to activate their Agriculture Officers and Field Assistants to perform their duties punctually during the Kharif 2006 campaign and furnish their attendance and progress reports by the 25th of every month to the DG office and salaries of absentees and ill workers may not be drawn.
