The Inter-Services Public Relations denied on Thursday remarks attributed to President General Pervez Musharraf in an interview with a private TV channel that the present assemblies will elect him for the second term.
"The President did not say that the present assemblies will elect him for the second term but he had clearly stated that his tenure expires in November, 2005 and that new elections should be held one month earlier in October 2007 under the constitution," Director General ISPR Major General Shaukat Sultan told NNI when he was asked about the President's remarks.
The President had also stated that the new presidential elections could also be held two months earlier of the expiry of his tenure in November 2007.
Major General Sultan added the President said elections for the President should be held between September 15 and October 15. He said the President had clarified the constitutional position and had not used the word of his election by the present assembly as had been attributed to him.
