US stocks rose on Friday in a see-saw session as strength in tech stocks such as Dell Inc, offset a slide in shares of aluminium producer Alcoa Inc and other commodity-related companies. Computer maker Dell rose a day after it reported earnings in line with analyst expectations.
Advanced Micro Devices shot up after the chip maker said Dell would offer its processors in Dell servers by year's end, ending Intel's monopoly. The Dow Jones industrial average was up 18.17 points, or 0.16 percent, at 11,146.46. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was up 5.61 points, or 0.44 percent, at 1,267.42. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 8.71 points, or 0.40 percent, at 2,189.03.
