Dell Inc, the world's top PC maker, said on Friday its Asia computer sales grew 30 percent in its first quarter, and forecast more strong growth in one of its few bright spots amid lacklustre global results.
Dell's regional growth outpaced a 20 percent jump in overall PC shipments for Asia, excluding Japan, in the first quarter, as the company's market share there rose to 8.5 percent from 7.5 percent a year earlier, according to data from IDC.
Within Asia, Dell's growth in South Korea was the strongest at 54 percent, while India rose 40 percent and China grew 29 percent, Asia Pacific President Steve Felice said on a conference call to discuss regional results for Dell's quarter ended May 5.
On Thursday in the United States, Dell reported its fiscal first quarter profit slumped 18 percent, as the company cut prices to rekindle growth. But while other markets struggled, Asia revenues grew 17 percent - well ahead of 4 percent for the Americas and 6 percent for Europe, according to the company's results.
