Dental Surgeon Tahir Ali Khan said on May 15 that unsterilised instruments used by the dentists and quacks in hospitals and private clinics are spreading the contagious diseases of hepatitis.
"The unsterilised instruments used by the dental surgeons and quacks for teeth treatments are main carriers of contagious diseases and some times invites HIV AIDS," he said.
The instruments used by some of the dentists and most of the quacks were spreading the infectious disease as they were used for hundreds of the patients without getting it sterilised, he added.
Most of the people who are visiting quacks for treatment came in contact with the unsterilised instruments and sometimes were exposed to deadly HIV AIDS and hepatitis.
He said even the glass syringes were used by the dentists and quacks in their clinics to administer Anaesthesia to the patients and the same syringes were used all the day long. Most of the dentists and quacks even did not use surgical gloves during operation and cleaning of teeth.
Another reason for high prevalence of hepatitis among dental patients is the presence of large number of quacks in this field who are totally ignorant of the hygienic requirements for dental procedures.
Dr Tahir said some of the dental surgeons and most of the quacks were infecting the patients with the contagious diseases which needs to be addressed.
Dr Tahir urged the government and health authorities to take strict action against the quacks and dentists who are found guilty for using unsterilised instruments in the hospitals and clinics.
