Mexican veteran Marco Antonio Barrera defended his World Boxing Council super feathweight crown here Saturday against American challenger Rocky Juarez.
Barrera, 32, has spent more than half his life in the pro boxing ranks, had to go the distance before being awarded a 12-round decision. Two judges scored it 115-114, 115-113 for Barrera, while one had it 115-114 for Juarez.
There was confusion in the ring in the initial moments after the final round as it was announced to the Staples Center arena crowd that the fight had ended in a draw.
The scores were later retabulated and it was determined that Barrera had won by a majority decision. The error did not change the outcome of the bout as Barrera would have retained his belt either way.
