The Lahore High Court (LHC) has dismissed a petition filed by President Watan Party (WP) challenging the appointments of judges in the higher courts against the principle of seniority.
The petitioner contended that appointments of the judges in the higher courts were being made ignoring the seniority and in violation of the Supreme Court decision in judges case.
The LHC dismissed the petition for being not maintainable.
PETITION RETURNED The Lahore High Court (LHC) has sent back a petition against the President of Pakistan, General Pervez Musharraf to the office with directions to mention the specific objection raised and fix it before the court again.
The petition was placed before the court as objection case but no specific objection was mentioned therein. The court, therefore, sent back the petition to the office for mentioning specific objection on it.
The petitioner, President Pakistan Lawyers Forum (PLF) A.K. Dogar contended in his petition that the respondent Musharraf being army chief could not take part in political activities. He prayed to the court to restrain him from carrying out political activities. He also contended that the respondent Musharraf could not hold two offices at a time.
NOTICES ISSUED The LHC has issued notices to secretary finance division and others in a petition filed by a member of the Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) challenging the performance of Umrah on official expenditures.
The court during the last date of hearing had directed the petitioner to make the secretary finance, cabinet division and ministry of religious affairs as respondents. The petitioner accordingly submitted the amended petition and the court issued notices to the respondent.
