England captain David Beckham wants to stay in Spain even after retiring from football, the Real Madrid midfielder said in an interview to be screened on Tuesday.
The 31-year-old said he had no desire to make England his permanent home again and would not consider playing for any club other than Real and Manchester United, the English Premiership outfit where he made his name.
Even his pop star wife Victoria wants to settle in Spain, despite reports that when they first moved over in 2003 she was bitterly unhappy about the switch.
Beckham admitted that he broke down in tears when United sold him to Spanish giants Real for 25 million pounds (46.8 million dollars, 36.7 million euros).
Interviewed in Spain, Beckham also told Britain's ITV television that "lies" about him have left him unable to trust anyone.
"I want to settle down here, my family's happy here, I'm happy playing football here," Beckham revealed.
Ex-Spice Girl Victoria, asked if she wanted to return to England when her husband quit football, replied: "I'm not sure we would now and no one's more surprised than me about saying this, but I don't want to go back right now.
"We've got our house, we've got a nice set of friends, the kids are happy."
Asked if he wanted to finish his career at Real, where he has yet to win a trophy, Beckham said: "I think so, yeah. I think so.
"Because at the end of my career, I want to be known as a player that's played at a top level, for the best teams, and they don't come much better and bigger than Manchester United and Real Madrid."
The midfielder said he would not want to play for any English club other than United, despite being hurt "a lot" when he first discovered he was no longer in manager Alex Ferguson's plans at the club.
"I think that's what hurt at the time, because as I said, everyone knows that I'm a Man United fan, Man U mad," he said.
"I think at the time, when I'd signed for Real Madrid, and when I got home, I think I actually cried because, you know, it was Man United, it was a team that I'd been at for my whole life."
The global soccer superstar said his years in the spotlight had taken their toll.
"It's impossible to trust people for me. And I don't like it being like that, I'm not that sort of person," he said.
"But I've been made into that sort of person because there's been so many things and so many people, not let me down but just sold lies on me, and I think that's the tough part to do.
"Because we could be suing people every week, every day there's a different story that is not true."
He said his admission that he suffered from obsessive-compulsive disorder had been taken "all out of context" and he had been portrayed as "mad... a bit of a weirdo".
He also admitted that having tattoos done was "very, very" addictive and he "enjoys the pain" of it.
Barring injuries, Beckham will lead England into the World Cup, which kicks off in Germany on June 9.
He revealed that he wanted to play for his country for as long as he could.
"I want to carry on playing for the country and leading England out as much as possible and as many games as possible. I'd love to get Sir Bobby Moore or Sir Bobby Charlton's record of caps. I'd love to reach that number of caps."
Beckham has 87 England caps, while Charlton racked up 106 and Moore earned 108.
Beckham hosted a lavish pre-World Cup bash for around 350 guests on Sunday, including members of the England squad.
Other celebrity guests included former England stars Paul Gascoigne and Alan Shearer, wild rocker Ozzy Osbourne, supermodels Kate Moss and Elle McPherson, golfer Nick Faldo, former England rugby union captain Will Carling and "Dynasty" actress Joan Collins.
