Foreign Minister Khurshid Mehmud Kasuri on Tuesday called on Qatar's Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani in Doha and discussed the gamut of Pakistan-Qatar relations.
Foreign Minister Kasuri, who is in Doha to attend the two-day Ministerial Meeting of the Asian Co-operation Dialogue, thanked the Emir and the Qatari government for their assistance to the earthquake victims in Pakistan.
Kasuri called on the Qatari Heir Apparent in the absence of the Qatari Emir who is currently on a tour to the United States.
In his meeting with the Crown Prince they covered the gamut of Pakistan-Qatar relations. Foreign Minister Kasuri informed the Qatari heir apparent about the high economic growth in the country and massive privatisation currently underway in Pakistan.
He invited Qatari investors to invest in Pakistan, which provided excellent opportunities.
Qatari Crown Prince showed great interest in the economic development of Pakistan and promised to encourage Qatari private sector to invest in Pakistan.
The heir apparent also invited a delegation from Pakistan's Chamber of Commerce and Industry and said that he would direct Qatari counterpart Chamber to issue formal invitation.
The Foreign Minister congratulated the heir apparent for the impressive strides that Qatar was making in economic and infrastructural development.
The Foreign Minister also briefed Qatar's Deputy Emir on regional issues. He told the heir apparent that Pakistan valued friendly relations with Afghanistan. Pakistan fully supported the government of President Hamid Karzai and had direct stakes in peace, progress and stability in Afghanistan.
He stressed the need for greater co-ordination in security matters between the two countries.
The Foreign Minister also shared his perspective with the Qatari dignitary on relations with India and briefed him in detail about the progress in Composite Dialogue with India, aimed at addressing all outstanding issues including the issue of Jammu and Kashmir.
The heir apparent referred to the upsurge that had been witnessed in bilateral ties following President Pervez Musharraf's Doha visit in June 2005 and expressed the interest of Qatari government to further strengthen relation with Pakistan in various fields.
