National Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Amir Hussain said that federal government under Pakistan Social Development Programme had allocated huge funds during the current fiscal year for the completion of projects pertaining to peoples welfare in the country.
In an interview with Business Recorder here on Monday, he said that prime concept of the government was to improve living standard of people, eliminate poverty and provide basic facilities to the common man.
Sufficient funds were being provided to the elected representatives for the execution of development projects pertaining to public welfare in their respective constituencies, he said.
The speaker was of the opinion that due to effective and sustainable economic policies of the government the economic growth had been increased considerably during the past six years.
The confidence of investors had been resorted resultantly a large number of foreign and overseas Pakistanis had showed their willingness in investing in Pakistan, he added.
Chaudhry Amir Hussain revealed that overseas Pakistanis were playing tremendous role in increasing remittances and at present the overseas Pakistani remittances increased to 300 million dollars from 88 million dollars.
Apart from this, the foreign exchange reserves had also been increased to 12 billion dollars from 1.6 billion dollars while exports were touching 17 billion dollars from 7.8 billion dollars, he disclosed.
About the construction of Sialkot-Lahore motorway, he said that work on this mega project would be carried out shortly. The completion of this mega project would not only reduce the distance between Lahore and Sialkot but also open new vista of prosperity and industrial development in Sialkot, he added.
The speaker said the government was utilising huge funds on the provision of basic facilities like electricity, Sui gas, telecommunication, education, health and means of communication in far-off and neglected areas.
The government had prepared a plan to illuminate every village in the country, he said.
The speaker said that in order to produce skilled and trained hands vocational training institutions would be set up at tehsil and districts headquarters, adding that the step was being taken for reducing unemployment graph in the country.
He called upon the business community that they should establish more small and cottage industries in remote areas for generating job opportunities and help in scaling down the unemployment. Large scale of industries in such areas would not only help in reducing unemployment graph but also supportive in minimising the rural migration towards cities, he said.
