President General Pervez Musharraf on Thursday underscored Pakistan's opposition to the use of force and stressed the need for a peaceful, negotiated solution to the Iran nuclear question.
Talking to Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Muttaki, who called on him, President Musharraf underlined support for Iran's right to peaceful nuclear uses under the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) safeguards.
During the meeting, bilateral relations and regional issues of common interest were discussed.
Foreign Minister Muttaki is here in connection with the 16th session of the Pakistan-Iran Joint Economic Commission. Both sides have agreed to enhance bilateral trade up to $1 billion over the next two years, from the present volume of around $400 million.
President Musharraf hoped that the meeting of the Joint Economic Commission will help consolidate trade and commercial ties between the two countries to achieve the desired targets.
The Iranian Foreign Minister reaffirmed Tehran's desire to further expand the economic content of the relationship.
On Iran-Pakistan-India gas pipeline project, progress made in the recent Joint Working Group deliberations was noted during Muttaki's meeting with the President and hope expressed for further progress on related issues in the coming weeks.
