Sindh Chief Minister Arbab Ghulam Rahim said on Thursday that economic position of the province was much better than two years ago when he took the charge of his office.
Speaking in a PTV programme, he said when he took over as Chief Minister the province was facing a Rs 12 billion overdraft, adding now there was a surplus of Rs 25 billion after repaying substantial amount of loans. The development budget of the province had increased to Rs 25 billion from Rs 14 billion in the past, he added.
The Chief Minister said his government had revamped the irrigation system in the province and made it functional to overcome the water shortage. Before he took over, a number of water channels had been lying useless for eight to 10 years, he added.
The Chief Minister said initiatives were taken to construct small dams at feasible locations in Dadu, Thatta and Tharparkar districts. The government was making all out efforts to ensure the supply of water to remote areas of Badin district and the results were very encouraging, he said. He said the KESC was privatised to ensure better service for the people in the city.
