Haji Muhammad Rafiq is a dynamic personality. He is the member of the Swiss Business Council, Dubai, member of the Advisory Board of Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology in Pakistan, Vice Chairman of Al Ghurair Giga Gold Refinery and Managing Director of Al-Ghurair Giga Pakistan (Pvt) Ltd.
Above mentioned are some attributes of his worthy personality. He stepped into textile business, in the year 1982. The Textile business was originally established by his father Haji Abdul Rahim Giga in 1956 in the name of M/s. Nida Textiles. In late eighties he took charge of his family business and due to his dynamic approach he managed to expand the business in Pakistan, Middle East and Africa. It is under his leadership that enterprise in Pakistan has been winning the award of Largest Exporter to Non Quota Countries for the last 16 years.
He has strong belief in growing his business in untapped and challenging markets and decided to start his textile business in a humble way in Africa. He along with his other family members worked day and night and developed a name in the African market and took a leap forward to set up a state of art textile unit in Dar-es-Salaam Tanzania.
He takes great pride in the establishment of this unit, as the President of Tanzania has applauded the contribution of Haji Rafiq and family members by investing in Tanzania.
In the year 1994 Haji Muhammad Rafiq diversified his business and entered into the volatile world of "Bullion" and started a new venture named as "Mazyood Jewellery" and by the grace of Almighty Allah it is now one of the leading traders of bullion to the subcontinent. Mazyood was awarded a gold plaque by the prestigious Union Bank of Switzerland for being the best relationship partner with them in the most befitting ceremony held at Burj Al Arab hotel Dubai in February 2000.
He did not restrict himself to bullion trading but moved a step forward by setting up a unique prestigious gold refinery in Dubai. Al Ghurair Giga Gold Refinery is a joint venture between the leading business house of the Emirates, Al Ghurair Group and the Giga family. The refinery is one soft steamed operational since April 2004.
Haji Muhammad Rafiq besides his business & other ventures is a great believer to spread education and he has taken it as a challenge. He is sponsoring scores of young boys and girls for higher education and devotes a significant part of his precious time in directly monitoring the student's education.
Haji Muhammad Rafiq rightfully takes great pride in the contribution which he and his family have made in a humble way in the economic development of Pakistan and UAE.
