The Commerce Ministry has arranged a two-day envoys' conference in Abu Dhabi starting from Thursday, May 31, to devise market access, trade promotion initiatives and investment strategies in the Arab countries.
Pakistan's Ambassadors to Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates (UAE) will attend the conference. While Commerce Minister Humayun Akhtar will deliver the inaugural address, Pakistan's Ambassador to UAE and special envoy to the Middle East Ahsan Ullah will highlight the trade and economic relations of Pakistan with the Middle-East countries.
All participating ambassadors are expected to give briefings relating to market access agreements of the countries in which they are stationed, marketing strategy of Pakistan's competitors, obstacles and opportunities for Pakistan's exports and suggestions for better market access and export promotion.
The object of the envoys' conference is to frame a market strategy for Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries (Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and UAE) and Middle East countries with particular reference to market access strategy, trade promotion initiative and attracting investment to Pakistan for which suggestions of the participants would be solicited.
UAE has been selected as venue for the conference because of its strategic location and importance to world energy markets. The non-oil segment of the UAE's economy and exports has had marked significant growth in recent years.
The UAE could help Pakistan in further bolstering its trade relations with other GCC countries due to its stature as a third most important re-export centre in the world, after Hong Kong and Singapore.
