NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani has said that the MMA government is taking practical steps to make Peshawar a modern city. He directed the concerned quarters to take concrete steps for widening Circular Road, construction of retaining wall along Canal Road and replacement of old water pipelines with new being used for irrigation, drainage and sewerage systems in the city.
Presiding over a high level meeting at his office on Tuesday, the chief minister also issued directives to officials concerned to give top priority to ongoing development projects, his government had initiated for the uplift of social sector in the province.
He called for initiating widening work on GT Road and Canal Road and installation of lights and fountains in different parts of the city to make the city environment pleasant.
The chief minister ordered giving practical shape to promises being pledged by the MMA candidates during by-elections in DI Khan and Malakand and called for inclusion of these plans in Annual Developmental Programme.
Akram Durrani ordered immediate postings in the newly built healthcare units, colleges and schools in various districts and warned the concerned officials against using delaying tactics in this connection.
He emphasised on accelerating work on projects, including DI Khan and Tank colleges, Government Girls College No2, Mufti Mehmood Public Library, Government College Aman Kheil and asked to ensure proper and in time utilisation of available funds on these projects.
He also directed that like Peshawar and Abbotabad recycling units should also be established in Mangora, Swat for removing rubbish and piles of dirty filth so that a clean environment could be made available to foreign tourists during the season.
At the meeting besides reviewing progress in ongoing uplift works in Peshawar, Mardan, DI Khan, Mangora, Bannu and other districts also discussed other problems being faced by general masses.
