The progress of clearance of relief consignments from ports of Karachi for earthquake affected people of Pakistan was reviewed at a meeting held under the chairmanship of Syed Anwar Haider, Provincial Relief Commissioner, Sindh here on Tuesday.
The meeting was participated by Brigadier Jawed Akhter Waraich, DO Logistics ERRA, Islamabad, Provincial Secretary, Housing Raeesuddin Paracha and representatives of Customs, Railways, NLC, KPT, QICK, KICT, AICT, PICT.
The Provincial Relief Commissioner thanked the participants and officials and concerned agencies for landing their unconditional co-operation for clearance of relief consignments from Karachi during the last six months and hoped that this spirit of co-operation will continue till clearance of the last such consignment.
Secretary Housing, Raisuddin Paracha briefed the meeting about progress regarding clearance of more than 600 containers of relief consignments.
He also presented a list of 57 pending relief consignments and the reasons for pending. He requested the Shipping Agents and terminal operators to cooperate in this national task and said shortcomings in documentation of these consignments should be overlooked.
Brigadier Jawed Akhter Warraich, praised the efforts of Provincial Relief Commissioner and his team and the co-operation provided by all concerned in this regard.
Changez Khan Niazi, CEO Quaid-e-Azam International Container Terminal stated that so far QICT gave waiver of over Rs 45 million and assured it will clear all relief consignments till June 30, with full waiver.
The representatives of KICT, PICT and AICT also assured their full support and waiver of charges for relief consignments.
The Collector Customs assured clearance of relief consignments on fast track as per government policy.
Eyed Anwar Haider emphasised that clearance of relief cargo is a national duty for all concerned which should be discharged in the same spirit, so that much needed help and assistance could reach the affected people in time.
