City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal has vowed to eliminate the heinous trend of corruption, which had discredited the City District Government Karachi (CDGK) amongst general public.
He stated this while addressing the preliminary session of a seminar organised by the CDGK in collaboration with National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Sindh, at Al-Markaz-e-Islami here on Tuesday.
Managing Director (MD), Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KSWB), Birg. Iftikhar Haider, Former Chairman, Public Service Commission (PSC), M. M. Usmani, renowned Economist Qaiser Bengali, and several town nazims spoke at the seminar on their respective topics.
Mustafa Kamal said the incumbent CDGK had fairly succeeded to minimise the high ratio of corruption prevailing in various departments of the CDGK, adding that several unresolved cases that had been pending for over 20 years have been resolved without bribes.
Stressing the need for eliminating the corruption that has engulfed the government institutions, he said the government should also look into the matter regarding its servants and should boost up their salary structure.
Acting DG NAB Brigadier Ihsan-ul-Haq apprised the participants of the seminar about the NAB's achievements since its establishment.
He said around 241 references had been lodged with NAB out of which 125 had been decided and in which around 85 culprits had been convicted, while 116 cases were under processing. He added that in the year 2005 around Rs 26 billion had been retrieved through NAB's involvement.
