In a surprise raid conducted on the directive of Health Minister Shabbir Ahmed Qaimkhani at Katchi Gali of Medicine Wholesale Market, fake drugs and gold ornaments worth over Rs one million were recovered.
Additional Secretary Health and Chairman Task Force Captain Abdul Majid (Retd) led the special team that carried out the raid at Medicine Wholesale Market at 11:00 am. Judicial Magistrate South Karachi, Chief Drug Inspector Salahuddin Tunio, Drug Inspectors Saud Raza, Kazi Akbar, Saleem Leghari, Tahir Kharizada, Idrees Shaikh, Qalb-e-Hasan were also accompanied the raiding party that was conducted with the support from area police.
The team raided medicine godowns in the presence of representatives of Pakistan Chemists and Druggists Association during which fake medicines, including life-saving drugs worth one million rupees besides ornaments valuing Rs one million and cash Rs 10,000 were recovered.
The recoveries included stickers of fake medicines, unpacked medicines besides medicines of various hospitals including JPMC, Liaquat National, PTCL and Balochistan Government.
Sindh Health Minister Shabbir Ahmed Qaimkhani has congratulated the members of Task Force for this successful operation and said the culprits engaged in the heinous trade of fake medicines and playing with innocent lives for few pennies would be eliminated and that was on the priority of health department.
