The rupee moved both ways versus the dollar in the currency market on Tuesday in process of rising demand for the greenback, dealers said. The rupee continued its overnight weakness versus the dollar in the open market, shedding 15 paisa for buying at 60.70 and 20 paisa for selling at 60.80, they said.
The rupee's recent fall may push it to touch the new low at Rs 61 in the kerb market, they said. If dollars' supply does not improve, the rupee may continue its slide versus the dollar in the interbank market, too.
The rupee also lost 80 paisa in relation to the euro for buying and selling at 77.60 and Rs 77.70, they added. The single European currency gained ground versus the major currencies on the back of dollar's falling in the overseas markets.
In the world markets, the dollar came under pressure in terms of the yen and euro amid profit taking in dollars' business, they said.
INTERBANK RATES: The rupee resisted further decline in its value versus the dollar at 60.23 and 60.25, they said.
