The development work on 37-kilometre-long Sialkot-Wazirabad dual carriageway is briskly under way. The project, costing Rs 880 million, would be completed in stipulated period.
Official sources told Business Recorder here on Tuesday that the completion of this project would not only improve the flow of traffic, but would also ensure the speedy handling of exportable consignments from Sialkot Dry Port (SPD).
Besides, it would also play an instrumental role in bringing big boom in exports because of Sialkot Export Processing Zone (SEPZ) and Sialkot International Airport are located on this track.
Meanwhile, the local business community have expressed its satisfaction and thanked the Punjab Chief Minister for initiating the project.
The government had also approved the construction of Sialkot-Lahore three-lane motorway and work on this project would be carried out in first week of July. This project would be accomplished in one year.
Official sources said that the completion of this project would help reduce the distance in 45 minutes between Sialkot-Lahore and would be linked with Lahore ring road.
Under the plan, industrial estates would also be developed along with the motorway for further expanding the industrial base as well as to accelerating the pace of trade and commerce activities on this track, the sources disclosed.
