With a view to providing better civic facilities to citizens and protect roads from dilapidation, the City District Government Lahore (CDGL) will lay down underground pipelines, which will be given on lease to telecom companies for laying fiber optic cables.
District Lahore Nazim Mian Amer Mehmood stated this in a meeting with the representatives of telecom companies here on Wednesday. The meeting was also attended by DCO Mian Mohammad Ijaz, EDO (Works & Services) Chaudhry Muhammad Arif, EDO (IT) and other high officials.
'Change in the communication structure is inevitable to bring about improvement in social life', he added. He also invited suggestions from the telecom companies for laying underground pipelines along 115-km long 32 important roads of the provincial capital. He said that those lines would be the property of the CDGL and leased out to telecom companies in future.
He also directed the EDO Works & Services to ensure the facility of laying optic fibre cables along the road and streets in future and its cost would be included in the project estimates.
