Senate Chairman Mohammadmian Soomro has said that the government is considering various options to control prices of petroleum products and, in the process, to make Pakistani goods cost-effective and competitive in the global market.
He was speaking at a LCCI function on Wednesday. LCCI President Shafqat Ali, Senior Vice President Abdul Basit, Vice President Aftab Ahmad Vohra, former presidents Iftikhar Ali Malik, Misbahur Rehman, Punjab Economic Forum President Anjum Nisar and Senior Vice-President Saarc Chamber of Commerce and Industry Jamil Mehboob Magoon were also present on the occasion.
Soomro said that energy prices were major area of concern for the government, which is striving to facilitate the industrial segment of the society. He urged the LCCI office-bearers to help the government in bringing cost-effectiveness.
On law and order, he said that the provincial governments had already been issued special instructions by the federal government, as this not only discourages foreign investment but also sends wrong signals abroad, which is a bad omen for the country.
He sought LCCI help for bringing the rate of inflation down, saying that LCCI should evolve proposals and forward the same to the federal government so that a solid strategy could be evolved.
LCCI President Shafqat Ali said that repeated increases in the prices of energy belie government's claims.
