Owner of Virgin group of companies, Richard Branson just portended on Tuesday at the renaissance of new supersonic passenger jets whilst unveiling prototype aircrafts that cut fly time in almost half by promising 3.5-hour flights from London to New York at astoundingly market competitive return ticket rates.
The billionaire stated that his spaceship company would be aiding a Denver-based startup Boom build a new generation of supersonic jets and introduce into the market transatlantic flight times unparalleled by any.
Whilst talking to a media outlet, Branson said, I have long been passionate about aerospace innovation and the development of high-speed commercial flights. As an innovator in the space, Virgin Galactics decision to work with Boom was an easy one. Were excited to have an option on Booms first 10 airframes. Through Virgin Galactics manufacturing arm, the Spaceship Company, we will provide engineering and manufacturing services, along with flight test support and operations as part of our shared ambitions.
Branson has partnered up with Blake Scholl, a former Amazon executive and pilot who unveiled a prototype of the new jet on Tuesday at a hangar in Denver, Colorado. Scholl also revealed their plans to launch the first commercial flight in 2023.
He further added that the ticket would cost the same as tickets in business class, but given the improve flight timings it is hardly a bargain.
