The Hamdard Shoora has stressed the need for a uniform education system in national language and a single curriculum for the country, based on Islamic values. The views were expressed by speakers at monthly Hamdard Thinkers Forum. Admiral Iftikhar Ahmed Sarohy (retd), former Chief of Naval Staff was in the chair. The topic was "Educational Policy".
In his presidential address Sarohy held that primary education in Urdu language, based on Islamic principles, is essential for the survival of our cultural and moral values. Sarohy said that efforts are being made to attain the socio-economic stability but all the efforts will be in vain if policies are not made as per nation's aspirations.
Speaking on the occasion, the former ISI Chief Hameed Gul said that first of all the direction of system should be determined. Unfortunately, the nation has wasted almost 56 years without any mission and vision, he observed. He said that independent education policy reflects the approach of a sovereign nation. But, he added, as a matter of fact Pakistan could not draft its own education policy according to the will of the people.
Renowned scholar Dr S. M. Zaman said that abolishing Islamic studies from the syllabus would have dire consequences. It would not be feasible in Pakistan to start English right from the beginning. We cannot find even the English teachers for schools in rural areas and this will create another mess, he said.
