The Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) criticised the government for victimisation of political opponents and termed it sabotaging the process of holding free and fair general elections.
Allahnawaz Durrani, PML-N District President, Rana Mehmood-ul-Hassan MNA and Nafees Ahmed Ansari MPA, in a press statement issued on Thursday, said the government through law enforcement agencies had started harassing the PML-N leaders to deprive them of their right of political struggle for the restoration of democracy. They said the government's policies were pushing the nation to a dead end. Price hike, load shedding, supply of contaminated water, increasing poverty and unemployment were gifts the people had received from the government, they added.
They alleged that all the reports of the international watchdogs appeared in the last three years, were showing Pakistan's graph in education sector on continued decline. The PML-N leaders said mainstream political parties had started campaign from the ARD joint platform for the restoration of real democracy in the country.
They said the presence of the incumbent regime was a security risk for the country, therefore, it must be removed from power.
"The only way to save the country from disintegration is restoration of constitution and democracy," they added.
They pledged that the opposition would not bow down to the unethical and undemocratic tactics of the Musharraf-led regime.
They said the PML-N secretary general had played central role for the launch of 'Charter of Democracy', for which the government and its agencies were trying to victimise him. Law enforcement agencies were after the political opponents and chasing them instead of criminals who had created a state of panic in the country.
They said the situation in South Waziristan Agency had gone out of the government's hands.
