The opposition members in the city district council termed the adoption of a resolution on increased leasing rates for katchi abadis a 'double- edged sword' for the poor.
This was stated at a press conference addressed by the opposition leaders from the Awam Dost panel Saeed Gani, Al-Khidmat panel Mohammad Raffique and Abudul Razzik, while several other opposition members were present, here at the opposition's chamber at of the city council on Thursday.
They said that the adoption of the amended resolution on leasing rates was illegal was an anti-people move by the treasury bench. They said that opposition was already against the increased leasing rates, while the treasury bench had linked the resolution with the Sindh Katchi Abadi Authority (SKAA).
They said if the SKAA increased the leasing rates for katchi abadis it would automatically be applicable for the katchi abadis of city government, which would reduce the legislative authority of city council on the issue.
Paying tributes to former City Nazim Naimatullah Khan for initiating the K-III water project, they said had Naimatullah not initiated the project, the incumbent City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal would not be able to inaugurate it.
They said that the resolution to pay tribute to Naimatullah Khan was not tabled by the presiding officer Masood Mehmood, besides alleging him for having a partial attitude at the meeting.
