imageFAISALABAD: Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) is implementing a power transmission enhancement investment programme at a cost of US $ 68.85 million to maintain and upgrade the existing distribution and transmission system besides reducing line losses and enhancing efficiency for the benefit of 3.6 million consumers spread over eight districts.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is providing financial support for the programme to be completed by the March 2018, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), FESCO, Eng. Rasheed Ahmed Aslam told a group of foreign and national media here on Thursday.

He said, the demand of electricity at peak time is about 2500 MW and company has to face shortfall of 500 to 800 MW in summer.

He informed that at present, the loadshedding has been reduced from 6-8 hours to only three hours for the consumers in view of decreased demand due to winter.

He expressed the confidence that the company would be able to totally eliminate loadsheding from its territory by the June 2018.

The CEO said, the dues recovery rate of the company is about 100 percent which is an example for other similar entities due to state of the art billing system.

Giving the details of the dues recovery, transmission and distribution losses of the company, Chief Engineer, Ali Raza said, the losses were at around 10.6 percent while recovery status was up to 99.65 percent.

He claimed that FESCO is one of the best DISCO among the distribution companies with respect to combined efficiency index.

Ali Raza said, the FESCO comprised 65 grid stations of 132 KV, 21 grid stations of 66 KV and 18 independent grid stations.

Sharing the physical status of sub-projects under Tranche-I, he said, the extension work of seven grid stations of 132 KV and augmentation of six grid stations have already been completed.

He said, rehabilitation, capacitor installation and system modernization of 132 KV grid stations has also been completed.

About the progress of Tranche-II, he said, pre-shipment inspection has already been carried out and power transformers has qualified all the requisite tests, adding, the shipment would be expected to arrive here by the end of next month.

He said requisite civil works has already been completed; however, all sub projects would be completed by March 2018.

Under the Tranche-III, he said, two new grid stations and four grid stations of 66 KV would be converted into 132 KV, adding four transmission lines of 83 kms and one transmission line of 60 Kms would be completed.

The Chief Engineer said, augmentation of 13 power transformers with forty MVA and augmentation of two power transformers with 20/26 MVA and extension of 10 power transformers with 20/26 MVA would be carried out under the Tranche-IV.

Ali Raza further informed that the company has distributed forty two lac bulbs of 15-25 watt among its consumers under the Prime Minister's Energy Saver Programme.

The Asian Development Bank provided US $ 85 million while French Development Agency (AFD) cofinanced the project.

It may be mentioned here that Asian Development Bank under the Power Distribution Enhancement Investment Program provided financial support of US Dollar 810 million through a Multi-Tranche Financing Facility (MFF) over a 10 year period for rehabilitation and augmentation of the power distribution system in Pakistan.
