Sarhad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCI) President Ghazanfar Bilour has stressed for removal of impediments in the bilateral trade between Pakistan and Afghanistan, bringing close business communities and promotion of economic and financial relations between both neighbouring countries.
Talking to senior economist of US embassy in Islamabad Anjum Akhtar here on Saturday, he said these initiatives could put the economies of both countries on the path of development and establishment of peace in the region. Sarhad Chamber of Commerce & Industry Senior vice president Inayat Khan was also present on the occasion.
Bilour said the restoration of infrastructure facilities and extension of other facilities to the business community would help promote bilateral trade relations into some extent.
He told the United States official that Pakistan was exporting goods worth dollars 200 million through land route to Afghanistan while the total volume of trade with Afghanistan is dollars 26.15 million.
The Sarhad Chamber of Commerce & Industry called for allowing the export of other items than cement through Ghulam Khan Customs Station on Pak-Afghan border in North Waziristan Agency. He also briefed Anjum Akhtar on export goods and those transported to Afghanistan through Afghan Transit Trade (ATT) and those being imported from Afghanistan.
