Taking stern cognisance of the worst traffic jam in Karachi on Friday, Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has warned the authorities concerned to ensure such situation will not occur in future.
He stressed the need for taking extensive measures to make sure smooth flow of vehicular traffic in the city and provide a relief to citizens against load shedding and other such problems.
In this connection, the governor has summoned a meeting of elected representatives and authorities at Governor House on Monday and Tuesday to review measures to provide relief to citizens. He also sought progress report from concerned authorities regarding on steps suggested for uninterrupted power supply in the metropolis in a recent meeting held at Governor House.
Meanwhile, Dr Ishratul Ibad said the government was pursuing an extensive programme to provide basic amenities to people living in both rural and urban areas of the province. He was talking to Senate Standing Committee on Defence chairman Nisar Memon, Sindh Irrigation & Drainage Authority vice chairman Abdul Haq, former PCB chairman Lieutenant General Tauqir Zia (Retd) and other notables who separately called on him at Governor House.
The governor said the provincial government on directive of President Pervez Musharraf was laying special emphasis on projects to alleviate poverty.
He said the rural population suffered more from poverty and the government was, therefore, promoting economic activities in rural areas, adding projects worth billions of rupees were under way to improve agriculture and irrigation system in the province. He also highlighted watercourse lining and other ongoing projects.
