The Kissan Board of Pakistan office-bearers and representatives of other agriculture organisations held a demonstration in front of the Lahore Press Club on Saturday to protest the discriminatory and anti-farmer policies of the government.
The protesters, who were carrying placards inscribed with different demands, raised full-throated slogans in favour of their demands. Addressing the protestors, KBP head Sadiq Khan Khakwani said the country could not make progress without promoting the agriculture sector.
He urged the government to provide maximum facilities to the farmers. "The goal of bringing green revolution in the country can not be achieved without solid and consistent policies, and facilitating the farmers," he added.
He demanded that farmers should be provided interest free loans, so that the small farmers might concentrate to get maximum production. He said that rice exporters and cultivators were facing manifold problems due to wrong policies of the ministry of commerce and industry. He was of the view that farming had become unaffordable for the farmers due to high prices of the diesel, electricity, and fertilisers and direct and indirect taxes.
