Japan's Renesas Technology Corp and Taiwan's Powerchip Semiconductor Corp said on June 01 they have agreed to cooperate on 4-gigabit flash memory chips, expanding their existing ties.
Under the deal, Renesas, a joint venture between Hitachi Ltd and Mitsubishi Electric Corp, extends manufacturing technology for 4-gigabit AND-type flash memory chips to Powerchip, Taiwan's largest memory chip maker.
Powerchip will supply part of its 4-gigabit flash memory chip output to Renesas and sell the remainder under its own brand. Renesas and Powerchip already have a similar agreement for 1-gigabit AND flash memory chips.
