Street theaters were organised in five schools of Local Bodies Wing City District Government, Karachi to observe the World Environment Day 2006 by the Environment Protection Agency (EPA).
First three shows were held on June 01 at School No 3/4 Old Sabzi Mandi, second in Baba-e-Urdu Maulvi Abdul Haque School Orangi Town Sector 11 and third in Elementary School OT 19 sector Orangi Town.
On June 03, fourth theatre was held at Major Ziauddin Abbasi School Nazimabad Liaquatabad Town and fifth show was arranged in Rashid Minhas School Nazimabad Chowrangi Liaquatabad Town where Advisor to CM Sindh for Environment, Alternative Energy and Information Technology Mohammad Noman Saigol was the chief guest, said a press release.
Speaking on the occasion Advisor Mohammad Noman Saigol said that World Environment Day is celebrated all over the world on June 05 every year to revive the pledge of mankind for the protection, conservation, rehabilitation and improvement of environment. "This day also inculcate us the importance of fast depleting natural resources without them a safe and pollution free environment may be difficult to maintain," he added.
He further said that the main purpose of celebration of this day is not only to make people aware on various environment issues but also to motivate people to play their role for the improvement of their local environment on self-help basis. "No problem can be entirely wiped out without full support of the masses," he added.
Referring the promulgation of ordinance on sale, use and manufacture of polyphone bags of small size and less than 30 microns thickness, he said that the referred ban cannot be fully implemented without full co-operation and support of public. "Where as to strictly implement the said Ordinance, the government is already making rules, which will be notified soon," he added.
Earlier, in his welcome address District Officer Education (Local Bodies Wing) City District Government Karachi, Mirza Amjad Ali said that in future multifarious awareness programs will be held in collaboration with EPA Sindh for the environmental awareness and education of students and teachers.-PR
