Pakistan People's Party Chairperson Benazir Bhutto has dismissed the impression that PPP and PML-N can't work together. Speaking to a private TV channel, she said that Pakistan was passing through the worst political and constitutional crises.
She said that Charter of Democracy (CoD) was not an electoral alliance but a vision for Pakistan, saying that several observers had described it as the second biggest deceleration after 1940 Pakistan resolution.
To a question she said that PPP, PML-N and all the component parties of the ARD were unanimous on restoration of the Constitution and democracy in the country. The army would be brought under the political supremacy according to the Charter.
"Judges of judiciary, in the present situation, are appointed by president or prime minister but under the CoD, they would be appointed in consultation with the elected bodies of bar associations as well as judiciary through a public hearing.
"There are serious differences between General Pervez Musharraf and Pakistan People's Party over the Constitution," she said.
To another question, the PPP chairperson said that a dutiful police officer, under present circumstances, was liable to punishment if he stops a car of an army person with tinted glasses.
Benazir said that some handful sugar manufacturers had hoarded the sugar to increase its price, saying that so far no probe in the scam had been ordered. PPP chairperson said that there were several big names involved in corruption in Defence Housing Authority, Lahore. She said the ARD would be ready to talk to General Musharraf if he was going to accept the CoD, adding that Musharraf would never accept the amendments because he is a military general.
