A European Union corner was inaugurated at Karachi University campus on Thursday. The First Counsellor Finance of the delegation of the European Commission to Pakistan, Emmanuel Mersch, performed the inauguration. The Vice-Chancellor of Karachi University, Professor Dr Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui, presided over the ceremony.
The corner is located at the Area Study Centre for Europe (ASCE), University of Karachi. Speaking on the occasion, the EU representative said that the purpose of establishing such a corner as to improve the visibility of the EU presence in Pakistan by targeting the future policy makers of the country.
He said by setting up a corner in the library of ASCE the aim was to enhance the ASCE's capacity to promptly highlight the developments in EU in various fields and to help the students and researchers to keep themselves of the recent EU activities.
Emmanuel Mersch pointed out that the success of the EU corner would be replicated at the libraries of Hamdard University Karachi, Punjab University Lahore, Lahore University of Management Science and the NWFP University, Peshawar.
